The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
