The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
