The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
