The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
