Al-Shams

The Sun (Al-Shams)

15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace

By the sun and its brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15

God the Almighty always says the truth.
