The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul, etc.), and Him Who perfected him in proportion; 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
