The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
