The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
