The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they called him a liar and hamstrung her. So God obliterated them for their crime, and (destroyed) all of them alike. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
