The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
