The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
