The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
