The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
