The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
