The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
Almighty Allah's Truth.

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
