The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
