The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
