The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
