The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
