The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
