The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
