The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
