The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
