The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
