The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And rejects goodness, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
