The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it envelops; 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and believes in the finest, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
