The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
