The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
