The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
