The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
