The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
