The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
