The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
