The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
