The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
