The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
