The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He verily will be content. 21
