The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
