The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
