And recall what time thou settedst forth from thy household early to settle believers in positions for the fight. And Allah is Hearing, Knowing. 121 When two groups from among you were about to lose heart, God was their protector. In God let the faithful put their trust. 122 And already had Allah given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were few in number. Then fear Allah; perhaps you will be grateful. 123 Also, remember when you said to the believers, "Is it not enough that your Lord is helping you with a force of three thousand angels sent (from the heavens)?" 124 Yes, why not? If you patiently endure and remain pious, and the disbelievers attack you suddenly, your Lord will send down five thousand marked angels to help you. 125 Allah has reminded you of this only as a glad tiding to you and so as to let your hearts be at rest. Help can only come from Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. 126 (They are sent) to break the power of the unbelievers or disgrace them and make them return after having lost all hope." 127 This matter is not for you to decide – whether He guides them to repent or punishes them, for they are the unjust. 128 Whatever is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. He forgives whom He wills, and chastises whom He wills: Allah is indeed All-Forgiving, Most-Compassionate. 129
