The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
