The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
