The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 What is your opinion regarding him who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or orders piety? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
