The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
