The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
