The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
