The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
