The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What is your opinion if he were upon guidance, 11 or orders piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
