The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
