Al-Alaq

The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or orders piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
